BTS songs I love to listen on repeat

This is supposed to be written after I’m done with “My bias” entry. However, the nephews just performed four songs from their BE album, as well as, their rendition of Coldplay’s “Fix You” (one of my favorite Coldplay songs) which, by the way, was beautifully arranged and delivered that it tugged at my heartstrings.  That’s why, it was basically a wonderful morning to wake up to and an excellent sign that I should write this one first.

By the way, I came across a comment in YouTube saying that the boys went full auto tune in their Fix You cover. I wanted to say THE NERVE!!! But then again, that was the commenter’s opinion, so I will agree to disagree with him/her. As what RM once said, “hater’s gonna hate”. Anyhow, if you have not heard the boys sing acapella or raw (real voice), then I have some videos for you to watch which will prove that our boys can sing beautifully without any auto tune at that.

Let’s move on to my topic.

BTS, as of this writing, has already released over 100 songs since their debut in 2013. Since becoming an ARMY nine months ago, I have already purchased five physical albums (for keepsake), thirteen digital albums (for when I’m on the road and connection is not available), and created my own playlists in YouTube for an easier streaming experience. Even though their songs are predominantly in Korean, it still gives me the same enjoyment like that of the English songs. But, the only difference is that theirs never fail to uplift my mood. This is one of the reasons why I love listening to them.

They have become my go-to music whenever I’m stressed at work, feeling blue or just wanting to calm my mind. In fact, I often find myself falling asleep listening to them. Since this has become a habit, I noticed that I can now identify or remember the melody or lyrics of their songs with ease. Guess they were unconsciously been ingrained in my subconscious.

Another reason why I love their songs is because of their lyrics or message. Yes, it is in Korean but it won’t hurt if you turn on the subtitle or search the net for the translation of the songs. I assure you that there is more to them than their pretty faces. If their songs will not make you dance, it will surely touch your heart because of the message it carries. They sing about social issues (N.O, Mic Drop), Self-love (Epiphany, Answer: Love Myself), Hope/Healing (Spring Day, 00:00 (Zero O’Clock), 2!3!, Magic Shop), and Mental health (Blue & Grey, Whalien 52).

So, what are the BTS songs I love aside from those I have already mentioned? Well, I have listed below the songs that I play on repeat. I have classified them in two categories, (1) Let’s dance and (2) Let’s chill. Let’s dance is a collection of their upbeat and danceable songs which motivates me to at least sway (that’s the maximum level of my dancing skills LOL). As for Let’s chill, this is a collection of their mellow and heart-tugging songs that I love to listen to whenever I’m mentally and emotionally exhausted and need uplifting.

What makes BTS music appealing to me is their meaningful lyrics and the versatility of their music genres. For me, these are the factors that separates them from others. It makes them unique as a group and their discography very impressive. Speaking of meaningful lyrics, here are some of my favorites.

Mic Drop – song aimed at the boys’ haters.

Mic mic bungee. Bright lights, forward. You thought I was going down but I’m fine, sorry.
My bad, “Billboard”. My bad, “worldwide”. Sorry mom, your son is so killing it.
Should I chip in? For the duties you missed as a good child.
We never have empty seats in our concert. I do it, I do it, you’re a tasteless ratatouille
If you’re so jealous and it hurts then find a lawsuit. Sue me. Sue it

Moon – Jin’s song dedicated to ARMY.

Suddenly I wonder, Are you also looking at me right now? (Oh), Won’t you even find out all my painful wounds? (Oh)
I’ll orbit around you, I’ll stay by your side, I’ll be your light, All for you.

Friends – V and Jimin’s song about their friendship and experiences.

One day when this cheer dies down, stay, hey, Stay by my side. For eternity, keep staying here stay, hey, Like your tiny pinky
Longer than seven summers and cold winters, Longer than numerous promises and memories.

Not today – song that tells about fighting and not giving up our dreams.

All the underdogs in the world, A day may come when we lose. But it is not today, Today we fight.

If you can’t fly, then run. Today we will survive. If you can’t run, then walk. Today we will survive.
If you can’t walk, then crawl. Even if you have to crawl, gear up. Aim your gun! Ready! Fire!

2! 3! – a song reminding ARMY that everything will get better eventually and that they are grateful to ARMY for staying by their side.

Let’s only walk on flower trails, I can’t say that.  Let’s only see good things, I can’t say that either.
Saying that there will only be good things from now on. Saying that you won’t get hurt. I can’t say that. I can’t lie like that.

It’s okay, come on when I say one, two, three forget it. Erase all sad memories. Smile holding onto each other’s hands. Hoping for more good days. If you believe what I say then one, two, three (one two three). If you believe then one, two, three (one two three)

So What – a gentle reminder that we should not allow our troubles or worries to affect us.

There’s nothing that works out as I wanted. There’s even fewer places for me to hide. It’s already been a while since the dice were rolled. If you dawdle, you’ll be swept away, oh bae. 90% of your worries are an imaginary swamp that you created.
Just go instead of worrying. Don’t get scared, cheer up. Shout it out, so what, what

Louder than Bombs – a song about wishing for better days to come.

The unfamiliar shadow amidst those cheers. Perhaps I wouldn’t be able to believe the words: “Let’s see and hear only good things” no more. Your silent sadness, it shakes me. In my quiet sea, waves would sometimes rise.
Louder than bombs, I break. All the pain pour out. From the moment I knew the expression you had on wasn’t that expression.
Louder than bombs, I break.

Lights – a song that talks about BTS and ARMY being each other’s light in the darkness.

All the angels who know pain. Flying on damaged wings through the night.
Every time I’m thinking about love. Every time I’m thinking about love.
I don’t wanna listen to just happy songs. I’ll face my loneliness, color my life.
Losing and gaining, but I’m still searching for something today.

But it’s okay sometimes to show weakness. It’s okay to be you. Don’t lie to yourself any more. Everything connects by sound.

You’re my light, you’re my light. Always shine into my heart. You’re my light, you’re my light. No matter how far apart we are, Your light shines on me.

Answer: Love yourself – a song that expresses the importance of loving oneself wholeheartedly.

Loving myself might be harder than loving someone else. Let’s admit it. The standards I made are more strict for myself.
The thick tree rings in your life. It’s part of you, it’s you. Now let’s forgive ourselves. Our lives are long, trust yourself when in a maze. When winter passes, spring always comes.

You’ve shown me I have reasons. I should love myself (oh). I’ll answer with my breath, my path.

The me of yesterday, the me of today, the me of tomorrow (I’m learning how to love myself). With no exceptions, it’s all me

Spring Day – the song tackles about grief and sorrow one has to endure when losing a loved one.

Is it you who changed (Is it you who changed) Or is it me (Or is it me). I hate this moment, this time flowing by. We are changed you know. Just like everyone you know

Yes I hate you, you left me. But I never stopped thinking about you, not even a day.
Honestly I miss you, but I’ll erase you. ‘Cause it hurts less than to blame you

I try to exhale you in pain. Like smoke, like white smoke. I say that I’ll erase you. But I can’t really let you go yet

Snowflakes fall down and get farther away little by little. I miss you (I miss you), I miss you (I miss you)
How long do I have to wait and how many sleepless nights do I have to spend. To see you (to see you) To meet you (to meet you)

You know it all. You’re my best friend. The morning will come again. No darkness, no season is eternal

In conclusion, BTS and I don’t speak the same language, yet, we are connected through their music. BTS has truly proven that music transcends language.
